Explore Our Range of Electrician Courses

We offer industry-recognised electrical courses for new and existing electricians. We cover industry standards and practical applications for testing, installing and maintaining appliances. Electricians can further their knowledge and qualifications, while engineers aiming to register with a Competent Person Scheme will benefit from our 2391-52 City & Guilds Inspection, Testing and Electrical Installation Condition Reporting course.

We now provide training to become a fully qualified electrician.

Note, this is NOT a ‘fast track’ course as these no longer exist to ensure your training is of a high standard, ready to register as a competent person at NICEIC or NAPIT as an approved contractor. Please also note that this route is not sold as a ‘package’. You simply pay as you go for each qualification when you are ready. The training is run as two-week blocks as we have found this to be beneficial to allow comprehension/absorption of what you have learned before the next session.

The training starts with lots of health and safety, basic electrical theory which then expands into practicing wiring circuits of various types, cable containment, ladders and access equipment such as mobile scaffold towers. You’ll learn safe isolation, safe use of power tools and workplace hazards (not exhaustive).

The assessment is a combination of online tests, classroom exercises and practical observations. This training is run over 3 lots of 2-week training sessions with a few weeks gap in between to allow you to absorb the training. Once you have completed the above training and are in possession of the City & Guilds 2365 level 2 certificate, you can progress to sit the 2365 level 3 training. This training also runs over 3 lots of 2 weeks training with a break in between the same as the level 3 course.

This level 3 qualification involves some written assignments in class about designing a particular installation and drawing a plan of cable routes and circuit design characteristics, projected test result values. You will perform testing and inspection and filling in your results on certification paperwork. You will also be doing some fault finding on a test rig. There will be some math’s involved as part of the training as you’d expect.

As part of this qualification, you will complete the bridging unit which allows you to enroll onto the following unit.

Once you have passed the 2365 level 2 and 3 and have your certificate from City & Guilds plus have access to employment as an electrician, either with a company or as a self-employed tradesman; you are then eligible to start your portfolio building towards the 2357 qualification. You have 18 months to complete this qualification else re-training and full payment will become payable again. NB: This course cannot be completed in less than 3 months.

The 2357 qualification has no training whatsoever. It is now literally all about YOU providing evidence doing electrical work as you have been trained. You will upload your evidence via an electronic portfolio system including paperwork requested. The claim for this qualification cannot be made until you complete your AM2 qualification at a NET Centre, located at various locations around the UK. Note the AM2 is payable by yourself and not MGE Training. We do provide AM2 training/revision lasting 2 days long for an additional fee, if required. Cost for this service is £699 plus VAT

The assessor will not instantly mark each submission but mark the portfolio when a significant number of uploads is achieved. He will then mark it when it needs to reduce the workload. We do not accept pushes for a portfolio review, it will be completed when its due, and when the assessor is available in between teaching and assessing other learners. Be patient. Once you have the 2365 level 2 and 3, passed your AM2 and been signed off for your portfolio, you will be eligible for the 2357-44 claim.

Evidence of the AM2 will need to be uploaded to ecordia before the claim for certification is made. Before registering as a competent person, you will need to book the 18th edition wiring regulations (2382) and the inspection and testing (2391-52), unless you have already achieved this (latest version).

Experienced worker route. 2346-04 (COMING SOON)

If you have at least 5 years’ experience working as an electrician and hold one of the recognized older qualifications (speak to a member of staff), you can register for the experienced worker qualification 2346-04 but you MUST complete the course within 18 months maximum, or the full fee and re-registration will be required again.

This pathway involves completing an onsite portfolio and submitting the work evidence via an electronic portfolio system. Please note that the evidence will NOT be assessed upon each submission, but once all the evidence is added. Only then will the assessor provide feedback for adjustments if necessary. Ecordia provides a comprehensive help system withing the help files with you tube video on how to upload evidence. There are no training Centre visits for this qualification or help on how you do electrical work. You already have the electrical skills and knowledge from the last five years plus of electrical onsite work, this just needs to be put into practice now with photographic evidence. There will be 2 onsite visits and one remote assessment. You will also need to complete the AM2E assessment at YOUR cost at an approved NET centre. This needs to be uploaded to the ecordia system for us to claim your certificate.

Before accepting you onto this qualification you must complete a candidate background form detailing information about your work history along with a declaration form of prior qualifications.
