Why Choose a Career in Electrical Installation?

Making the decision to choose a career in electrical installation offers long-term stability and strong levels of progression opportunities. In the UK, the demand for talented, qualified electricians is consistently high. This is driven by ongoing constructions, housing developments and the need to upgrade various levels of ageing electrical systems across the country.
Working in this field also provides strong earning potential, with scope to increase income through experience, qualifications and specialist certifications. Electricians are needed across domestic, commercial and industrial sectors, giving you flexibility to choose the type of work environment that suits you best.
This career path also helps to open doors into self-employment, allowing for skilled and ambitious electricians to build-up their own businesses or progress into more specialised roles. These roles can include inspections, testing, industrial maintenance and renewable energy systems.
Here at MGE Training we offer structured routes and industry recognised electrical training courses, advice on career growth and guidance on why it is a smart career move.
The MGE Electrical Training Pathway
Beginner Route:
2365 Level 2 → 2365 Level 3 → 2357 NVQ → AM2 → Qualified Electrician
This beginner route is designed for those with little or even no prior experience in electrical installation. These electrical city and guilds courses start off with core electrical principles at Level 2, then progress into more advanced installation theory at Level 3 before moving into workplace competency through the NVQ. The AM2 assessment is the final practical exam that fully confirms readiness to work as a qualified electrician.
Experienced Route:
2346 Experienced Worker Assessment → NVQ/AM2 route (where applicable)
For those with some prior experience who desire to upskill themselves and progress further through the electrical field, this path is ideal. The Experienced Worker Assessment allows learners to evidence their skills before progressing directly into the NVQ and AM2 stages, helping them achieve recognised qualifications more efficiently, supporting and enabling their future career growth.
